Tot school short week!

Royal is 13 months

Yep, just like preschool, we had a half week of tot school.  and this means that we did just a handful of things.  Royal made up for it by learning things all by himself though.  This week he learned how to climb, and then fall off of the couch.  He learned how to open the toilet and splash water.  And he learned exactly which button on the TV actually turns it on.  He also practiced running away from us in a busy store.  It was an eventful week!  Now onto what I actually wanted him to learn…

We played for the longest time with this balloon.  Royal loved all then noises it made when he would squeeze it, and he loved to watch it float.

I set up this old puffs container with a bunch of his old baby food jar lids.  He would put them in and try to grab them out.  I tried to show him how to dump them, but he preferred putting his whole arm in!

And lastly we made these little noise containers.  The idea came from 1+1+1=1.  The containers are old breastmilk storage containers (Medela I believe) and I put random small objects in.  Broken crayons, coins, buttons, an old bracelet, etc.

He actually really enjoyed the sound containers and played with them off and on all week.  He loved to just shake them to see what sound they would make!

Well that was it for us this week!  Make sure to check out 1+1+1=1 for more tot school ideas!

Preschool half week!

Baloo is 3 years 10 months

We had a short school week due to a military ball on Thursday!  My parents came into town to watch the boys so the hubby and I could go to the ball.  We had a great time going out by ourselves, and then a great time just hanging out with my parents!  We didn’t completely skip school but we did skip out on the pictures.

I’ve also decided to really focus on reading this summer.  We’re participating in 2 reading programs (one at our local library, and the other at notimeforflashcards.com).  So I’ve taken a lot of our school time out and we read instead.

We’re about halfway through week H.  So really we’ve just done a few of the worksheets.  Since the members only area JUST opened, we’ll start using the powerpoint lessons this week with letter H!  I’m really excited to see how Baloo responds to the powerpoints.

Cutting out the cars

He decided to celebrate after every line he traced

Other things we did this week…
We used these shape viewers, but I used them as a mat since we don’t have any cardstock on hand.  Baloo and I walked around and gathered anything triangular!

We used the geoshape sorter shapes to make shapes, letters, and other random things

Baloo is slowly taking over my iTouch…and sadly, he knows how to navigate better then I do already.

Play-Doh!!  I always hesitate in getting this out, but Baloo is getting so creative with it lately that I can’t help but let him play with it for hours.

My parents got Baloo this make your own train set.  He assisted in putting it together, and then he painted it!

We have a really busy month coming up.  My husbands’s leave begins in a bit less then 2 weeks, and we are driving all over the country.  Then we move a week after the vacation ends!  So my posts will be sporadic at best.  That does give me a month to prepare for our real start to preschool in mid-July though!

Tot school – week 2!

Royal is 13 months

We just had a fun week here.  Daddy was home much of the week and we took a spontaneous trip to the zoo.  We just did a little bit of tot school as we are still getting into our school routine.

Royal loves pom-poms.  This isn’t the first time I’ve pulled out this activity for him.  He will play with the glass jar, put pom-poms in and take them out.  He will try to screw the lid on and then take it off.  And amazingly, he doesn’t try to eat the pom-poms!

And he really loves our new geo sorter toy.  He usually just picks one or two pieces to play with and bang together.

And naturally he loves to knock down other peoples towers.

Royal really likes animals and animal sounds.  I think I could entertain him all day by playing with animals.  So his first chunky puzzle had to be animals.  He will pick an animal, I tell him what it is and what sound it makes (cue laughter) and then he eats it or throws it.  If we have the geo board out, sometimes the animals will run up the stairs…

We tried to walk in Daddy’s boots.  Royal was not impressed.

Royal also wasn’t very impressed on our zoo trip.  He did get to enjoy some ice cream, but other than that the only animal he was even remotely interested in was this owl.  It flew from one branch to another right when we got there and got his attention.

I felt daring this week and let Royal investigate some play-doh.  He did continuously put it in his mouth, but immediately spit it out again.  I figured once he tasted it and didn’t like it he would stop…but I was wrong.

That’s it from us this week!!  Make sure to check out 1+1+1=1 for more amazing tot school ideas!
