M&M Christmas Tree

You may not have noticed, but the boys recently got haircuts…from me.  Baloo was easy – I just let him play on the iTouch!  Royal however threw a fit.  One for the record books I think.  And it ended with me buying a huge bag of M&Ms to bribe him with (which kind of worked).

Anyway, I was left with quite a few M&Ms.  I’m not quite ready to give up on my 2012 diet yet, so I decided we needed to find another way to use them up.  I had the boys sort them M&Ms based on color.  M&Ms seem to be a great motivator for Royal because he was sorting like crazy!

Then I drew a little Christmas tree.  I started off with dot markers, but the dots were too big.  So I ended up drawing little circles with a marker.  Worked perfectly!  I made all the circles in the Christmas tree shape and told the boys to match the green and brown M&Ms to the little circles.IMG_1740

Once they finished the tree I told them to decorate their trees with the rest of the colors.  Royal didn’t quite get this far.  He was much too distracted with eating the M&Ms.  Baloo had a great time making his tree though! IMG_1748

Bowling Math

Since the time change we haven’t been going outside as often.  Our routine is STILL a mess from it!  So I’ve been trying to think of more inside activities that are educational but still get the boys moving.  One game we came up with is Bowling Math.  We eat a lot of oatmeal and I try to save as many of the containers as I can.  They get bent up pretty quickly though.  I managed to rescue 6 and set them up in a triangle shape.  Then I had Baloo (or anyone really) bowl a ball at the containers.

Baloo would be responsible for figuring out the score.  He would count how many were standing and how many had fallen.  Then I would tell him to take 6 (the amount of containers we had) minus how many were standing, and that was his score.

A few times we added how many had fallen plus how many were standing, but that got old since the answer is always 6.  This really got him counting, adding, and subtracting though!

Sight Word Add-Ons

I’ve (finally) completed the add-ons for sight words!  These correlate with the You Can Read program as 1+1+1=1!

I’ve also included a zip link to download ALL the add-ons at one time!
