Bloggers Go Olympics: Archery

Today I am participating in the Bloggers Go Olympics link up!  Make sure to visit Creative Playhouse and The Fairy and the Frog too!

I’m not a huge Olympics fan, as in I don’t really watch the sports.  I love knowing the scores and seeing the athletes but beyond that I’m just not interested.  However, I felt like the martial arts would really interest the boys.  First, Baloo did almost a full year of Tae Kwon Do.  He was close to getting his white belt when we had to leave.  I hope that he picks it up again soon!

And of course the obsession in our house at the moment in Brave, and Merida is very much into archery.  Baloo even picked out a bow and arrow for his birthday (fake toy bow and arrow!).  So what better sport to learn about on Martial Arts day than archery!

Bows and arrows used to be used for hunting but now it’s more of a sport than an hunting technique.  I wanted to create our own bow and arrow out of ordinary household items that most people would have in their homes.  I enlisted my husbands help, and together we came up with the hanger and toilet paper roll bow and arrow!  All you need it an arrow, an empty toilet paper roll, and scotch tape (optional).Bloggers Go Olympics: Archery

Bend  and crease the TP roll in half.Bloggers Go Olympics: Archery

Then cut one side into a triangular shape and tape shut.  Bloggers Go Olympics: Archery

Now put the TP roll against the hanger…

Pull the hanger back…and release!  Watch your arrow soar through the sky!

We also attempted to make a real bow and arrow set.  It’s been raining like crazy here to unfortunately all the wood is quite wet.  And my knife skills are a bit rusty.  We still managed to make a cute little set though!

And now we are passing the torch to Train Up a Child!
