Tot school!

Royal is 13.5 months

We had a pretty awesome week here.  Along with putting together our own theme stuff for preschool, I planned a bit more for tot school.  Win-win situation!

We played with this shape sorter.  I wanted to show Royal how to put the shapes on and how to dump them off.

We colored with some crayons, although this never lasts long with Royal.

I have to give credit to Royal for this activity.  He found the empty cup and decided to put the straw in by himself.  He played with this for a good 30 minutes without making a mess!

Books were a big hit this week!  Royal loved flipping through this book and having either Baloo or I tell him the color, animal, and animal sound on the page.

We spent an afternoon outside (first at the pool) and then eating watermelon and playing with chalk!  The last time we had chalk out Royal spent most of his time eating the chalk.  This time he actually drew a bit!

Royal’s favorite puzzle.  We talked a bit about the color and shape, and he actually tried to put the pieces back into place a bit.

And then he used the pieces as musical instruments.  He’s not crying here, he’s screaming in tune with the drum…

This is why you don’t put dip out of the kitchen table while making dinner.

Popsicle sticks, a puff container, and a Dial soap container.  We put the popsicle sticks in, and figured out different ways to get them out.

Tot school

Royal is 13.5 months

We actually had a semi-normal week and did tot school about 3 of 5 days which is quite ideal for us.

I got out this little basket of pegs and we played with them for hours over the course of a few days.

I sorted them into cups and talked about the colors.  Royal enjoyed putting them in the cups, taking them out, putting them in, taking them out…etc

We learned you can blow air through the pegs.

Royal and I took turns putting the pegs into the little basket holes and the other would try to take it the other side.

And we made music by banging them together.

Then I saw this face and knew he was distracted by something…

Indeed there was a butterfly right outside our door!  I think we observed the butterfly for about 10 minutes before it flew away!

Back on track…we played with just the cups for awhile.  Stacking and pretending to drink can be a lot of fun!

Of course we read some books.  Royal really enjoys the touch and feel books – especially the one about dogs!!  That one is actually in French (courtesy of Gigi who visited Cannes last month) so we got a bit of French exposure in as well!

This is the monkey version…I’m working on showing Royal how to turn the pages.  We read Goodnight Moon everyday and he seems to be getting a grasp on which way to turn the page.

We played with some magnets on the fridge (yes, that is the cast of The Office)

Listening to the sounds we can make while jumping on hollow cable boxes

Royal has learned how to throw, and he enjoys practicing.  Hard to get a picture of it, but he’s throwing little counting dogs.

And while on a tour of our apartment complex, we practiced climbing some stairs.

That’s it for our tot school this week!  Check out 1+1+1=1 for more tot school ideas!

Tot school short week!

Royal is 13 months

Yep, just like preschool, we had a half week of tot school.  and this means that we did just a handful of things.  Royal made up for it by learning things all by himself though.  This week he learned how to climb, and then fall off of the couch.  He learned how to open the toilet and splash water.  And he learned exactly which button on the TV actually turns it on.  He also practiced running away from us in a busy store.  It was an eventful week!  Now onto what I actually wanted him to learn…

We played for the longest time with this balloon.  Royal loved all then noises it made when he would squeeze it, and he loved to watch it float.

I set up this old puffs container with a bunch of his old baby food jar lids.  He would put them in and try to grab them out.  I tried to show him how to dump them, but he preferred putting his whole arm in!

Looking at them

And lastly we made these little noise containers.  The idea came from 1+1+1=1.  The containers are old breastmilk storage containers (Medela I believe) and I put random small objects in.  Broken crayons, coins, buttons, an old bracelet, etc.

He actually really enjoyed the sound containers and played with them off and on all week.  He loved to just shake them to see what sound they would make!

Well that was it for us this week!  Make sure to check out 1+1+1=1 for more tot school ideas!
