Tot School – Week of Feb 14

Royal is 21.5 months

I am amazed that we did so many Valentines activities and didn’t get a single picture!!  Oh well, here’s what we did get pictures of!
Playing with Wedgits.  He didn’t care much for the bigger pieces – just wanted to put the little white ones in the base!

Painting!  This child could paint forever.  And his favorite color?  Purple!  Of course I would have 2 boys that like pink and purple!

Salt painting.  This didn’t go over well.  He was very uninterested in painting and spent most of his time dumping the water from one cup to another.

Not a great shot, but here is his reading his favorite book.  He knows exactly where to find it on the shelf and pulls it out daily.

He actually got a lot of these shapes in by himself with little frustration.  We also used the board to talk about colors and tried to build some towers.

Playing with the peg board.  He was able to get the pieces onto the little mats although after that he was more interested in knocking down what Baloo was making.

Playing with our Nn drawing.  His favorite is pointing out the nose – which is also his favorite body part to point out!  Those are the vocab cards that Baloo cut out from the RRSP program at 1+1+1=1.

And his favorite activity this week – playing outside at the water table!

Puzzles!  We had an animal puzzle and an emergency vehicles puzzle out this week.  Royal did really well with both of them!

He also enjoyed using them to play on the shape board.  We had the animals climbing/running/jumping all over the shapes, and in between to!

A little bit of stringing.

Royal figured out the best way to pull the string through was the use his mouth.

And our pet shop!  You can read more about our pet shop here!

That’s it for us this week!  For more tot schools ideas check out 1+1+1=1!

The Craziest Pet Shop

We saw an idea on a blog recently but for the life of me I cannot find it again.

We set up our own little pet shop.  The idea was that the boys would pick one animal, learn to take care of it and feed it, and that would be theirs.  However, they both wanted to switch from animal to animal so it turned into working at the pet shop!

Royal picked out an elephant first and got his elephant food.  Baloo picked out a dog and immediately poured out the dog food for the dog.

After eating we had to brush their teeth of course!

Then we had to groom them. ..

And all good groomers sweep up when they are done!!

Baloo did this over and over with different animals (Cat, monkey, shark)

Dirt Cups

It’s been my goal to have a weekly kid-friendly recipe – something fun we could all make together.  It’s really difficult to find easy, safe, and good recipes though!  But the harder I work at it, the more I find to try.  So for nature week we made dirt cups!  Most dirt cups come with worms, but due to a lack of gummi worms and my general distaste for them, we decided just to have dirt.

I bought Jell-O Instant Chocolate pudding for this.  You just mix in 2 cups of milk (which Baloo measured) and whisk for 2 minutes.  Both boys got a fork for whisking and I let them go.  Yes, it was messy!

We then poured the pudding into 6 little cups and the boys cleaned up the big bowl for me.

Crushing the Oreos!  We got a bag of bite size oreos but only used about 1/4 of the bag for this.

The finished cups!  Pudding on bottom, crumbled oreos on top!

Enjoying the fruits of their labor.
