Chocolate and Vanilla Playdough

I’ve been working on a document where I compare playdough recipes in hopes to find one that is the best of all.  I’ve made dozens of recipes of playdough recently!  With a leftover package of Jell-O vanilla pudding, I decided to try something new.  At the least I figured we’d have nice smelling playdough!  And when i finished making the vanilla, the only logical choice was to make some chocolate to go with!.

And of course with all the delicious smelling playdough, we had to make a little ice cream factory.  I cut up some egg cartons we had left over to use as our cones and we made vanilla/chocolate ice cream swirls!

The boys really enjoyed playing with the wonderfully scented playdough.  They did try to eat it a few times, but I think the salt content stopped them.

Playdough recipe:

Vanilla:
1 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup Vanilla Jell-O pudding (1 package)
1/2 cup salt
1 1/2 cup water
1TBSP cream of tartar
1 1/3 TBSP vegetable oil

Mix all ingredients together.  Heat over medium-low heat stirring constantly until a dough starts to form and pulls away from the sides of the pot.  When dough seems dry enough remove from pot.  Let still until cool enough and then knead.  And play!

For the chocolate I used the same recipe except replaced the 1/2 cup vanilla pudding with 1/2 cup of Swiss Miss chocolate mix.  I think I used a bit too much chocolate as the playdough turned out a bit dry.  Less chocolate and more flour would probably help, or maybe using real cocoa instead.
