Around the time Baloo turned 1 I stumbled across The Birthday Book by Amy Krouse Rosenthal.  It’s a ‘fill-in-the-blank’ book, similar to a baby book, but that asks questions about birthdays.  Every year there is a section to fill out.  Each yearly section has similar basic questions about the birthday party, presents, friends, things they’ve said, etc.  And each section has an interview to be done with the birthday child.  And finally each section has a special page meant to capture the moment with the child – their recipe for a cake, guessing how much a car is worth, and other similar ideas.

I immediately fell in love with this book.  I’m not one to keep up with baby books, so this gives me an opportunity to keep track of my boys over the years.  Once a year I can get the book out and fill out the information with ease. 

My favorite section for each year is the interview.  I choose a time when my kids are fed, well rested, and at least a bit calm.  Then we snuggle up together and go through the questions.  When we’re finished we go back through all the previous years to compare and it’s like going back in a time machine!  I love reading through all the years. 

I highly recommend The Birthday Book to everyone.  It’s a great memory keeper and much easier to keep up with than a baby book!
