Tot School – Finger Painting

Logi-Bear is getting to that age where he likes to be involved in everything.  From bath-time to crafts he wants to do it all and he wants to do it himself.  I remember doing fingers paints with Royal at this age so I thought we would give it a go!  A friend gave me this recipe and it turned out really well.  I was nervous at first because it seemed so liquidy but all the sudden it got creamy.  The texture was really nice!

Logi-Bear wasn’t sure what to think at first.  He doesn’t really like getting his hands dirty.

So instead of using his hands, he painted with the paint tray.

We did finally convince him to use his hands and paint a bit though!  It turned out to be quite messy!

The finger paint recipe:

Cornstarch Finger paint
3 tablespoons sugar
1/2 cup cornstarch
Medium saucepan
2 cups cold water
Small Cups
Food coloring
Liquid dishwashing detergent

Mix sugar and cornstarch in saucepan. Turn heat on low, add cold water, and stir until mixture is thick. Remove from heat. Divide mixture into the small cups.
Add a few drops of food coloring and a drop of liquid dishwashing detergent to each portion. Stir and let cool before use. Store covered.

I found that the mixture took to the food coloring very well!  I used gel food coloring and it just took a little bit to get a rich color.
