What we Liked About the Online Unit Studies
Baloo and I both went through the Ancient Egypt course independently and we both took a few things away from it. He picked out information that interested him (which, interestingly, was not all the same info that interested me…). He was able to work at his pace on the parts that spoke to him. In the meantime, I could do what I needed with the younger kids.
Still Has a Hands On Aspect
Each of the courses from Techie Homeschool still has a hands on aspect. For Ancient Egypt, one activity was playing Senet…which is actually quite fun. The game board is included as a PDF in the course!
I love presenting this kind of culture because it shows they were just like we are! The Ancient Egyptians, who lived thousands of years ago, also like to play games. What better way to teach diversity and acceptance than by realizing how similar we all are? We didn’t turn this into a political discussion but I did appreciate that I can make this culture real to them. They were real people who led real lives, which included recreation (sometimes).
Technie Homeschool offers a grand selection of unit studies, all online. It’s worth a moment to check it out.
