Eiffel Tower Unit Study

The Eiffel Tower is a pretty impressive structure. It was the tallest man-made object in the world for 41 years. They only intended to keep it up for 20 years but it’s created such a buzz that it has now been standing for 131 years!

It also helps that the military started using it for radio communication.

Not to mention it just looks really amazing. It’s one of the most recognizable structures in existence today.

And I think it deserves it’s own unit study!

Eiffel Tower Unit Study

I’ve always loved France. There is something magical about Paris and French that drew me in from a young age. French is the only language I’ve ever seriously tried to learn.

And as a result, I’ve loved passing on some of that love to my kids.

Fun fact: The Eiffel Tower is in Paris, France! Check out these fun facts about Paris for more facts to share with your kids.

Eiffel Tower Mini Book

I always like to include a small book with my unit studies – especially when they have spaces for kids to write their own information and drawings.

This mini book covers some basic facts about the Eiffel Tower as well as some interesting ones.

For instance, how much does the Eiffel Tower weigh?

The mini book also covers the height of the Eiffel Tower, where it’s located in the world, and a bit of history.

Decorate Your Own Eiffel Tower

I think every good unit study should involve a bit of creativity.

The Eiffel Tower hasn’t changed much in it’s 131 years. However, it was used as a billboard for a little over a decade. And now it’s lit up at night creating a beautiful night time scene.

I thought it would be fun to see how kids would choose to decorate the Eiffel Tower, if given the chance.

This activity is pretty simple. Just print out the pages, decorate, and tape the pages together at the top to create a 3D model.

I highly recommend printing on cardstock so it stands up well.

Eiffel Tower Construction Flipbook

I found this really amazing series of photos detailing the construction of the Eiffel Tower and I knew immediately that it had to be a flip book.

Check out my video below and then print the unit study to make your own.

This is a really simple activity – cut out the pieces and then staple them together in order. The dates are listed on the photos. So if they get mixed up – just put the dates in order. And yes, the dates are in French.

Definitely print this on cardstock so it’ll flip better!

If you print it out twice, you can watch it built it forward and reverse.

Additional Resources for this Unit Study

I meant this to be a day long unit study so I kept it pretty simple.

Included in the printable set is also a word search with vocabulary and some writing pages.

But I also thought it would be fun to include a few more ideas I’ve seen hanging around.
