March Poem!

After our monthly poem was such a hit in January I decided to do one every month…and then immediately fell off the ball in February.  However, we are back on track in March!  We’re doing a space/moon theme in the middle of the month so I chose a poem to go with that theme!

The sun is in the sky.
The sun is in the sky.
Hot and bright; it gives us light.
The sun is in the sky.

The moon is in the sky.
The moon is in the sky.
Around and around the Earth it goes.
The moon is in the sky.

It’s very simple and includes a lot of Baloo’s sight words!  We’ve been reading it daily for the past week and he already has it memorized of course!  I just got finished with some manipulatives to go with the poem which I will introduce tomorrow!  I thought about putting these on popsicle sticks, but opted to wait and see what the boys do with them first.  I’m also thinking of adding a little cloudy sky and starry sky to the mix.

These are just contraction paper doodles that I laminated.  I tried to make the Earth look a bit realistic (it’s tilted to the side.  That is Europe/Asia, Africa, and Australia).  I added glitter to the sun to make it sparkle a bit.  And the moon is a crescent shape simply to make it more recognizable.

Next week we will start playing some games with the poem!  I’ll take out words and ask Baloo to put them back.  We might see if there is anything he would add to the poem!
