Tot school 8/22

Royal is 28 months

We’ve really spent the past few weeks just taking it easy and following Royal’s lead.  For the short time Baloo was in public school we had a blast together!  We took long nature walks every day, read books, played with games and just had a great time together.

Here is Royal taking a look at the stream that runs by our house.  Whenever we go for walks he always wants to go “look at the water”.

I wanted some new artwork for the kitchen so I had the boys paint on a canvas for me.  It turned out so cool (haven’t got pictures yet though)

And of course one painting wasn’t enough, so they continued making many more masterpieces.  Then Royal wanted to pour the paint into the jars.  I figured it was good motor skill work!

We are working on Volcanos and V is for Volcano this week (printables to come).  Here’s Royal dot painting the V’s on the volcano.

I helped him color these volcanos, and then he joined in with me and colored a few of them!

I got this idea from 1+1+1=1.  I set the markers up on the individual colors and told Royal which color to knock over.  I found it worked better if I set up just one at a time.  He really had a blast with this!

Royal and Baloo came up with this activity on their own…they were basically stringing grapes onto a straw!

That’s it from us this week!  For more great tot school ideas check out 1+1+1=1!

Kindergarten

Well Baloo was in public kindergarten for exactly 2 weeks.  He loved it!  He had a wonderful teacher and did great at school.  However, we discovered they used some discipline techniques that we don’t agree with and we just aren’t comfortable with him being in that atmosphere.  So back home it is!  He actually was not disappointed to come home at all, and even thanked me for it.  I do think it was a good experience for him even though he was only there for 2 weeks!  But now we are getting back in the swing of things and trying to get back on track.

We’ve decided to study volcanoes for the rest of August.  These 2 sheets are actually from Homeschool Share.  We decided not to do a lapbook out of it in the end.

I decided to try to fit some PE time in every day.  I tried to teach the boys to do sit ups and push ups.

And we’ve had a lot of reading time.  Those 2 weeks in school really sparked Baloo’s motivation to learn to read!

I think we’re just about ready to jump back in to kindergarten homeschooling!  Baloo is very excited about it and I am getting there.  It’s been overwhelming going from public back to homeschooling so suddenly.

Tot School!

I haven’t posted tot school in a bit for 2 reasons.  Firstly, we haven’t been doing as much as usual since Baloo is going to start public school soon.  Secondly, we’ve been out of town!  So this will encompass more than just one week.

We did a bit with the letter Z kind of randomly.

He loves the gluing part the best!

He wanted me to draw him a big net, so I did!  And then he wanted to color it! DSC03802

Royal had a bit of a fall while on vacation and has a nice gash on his eyebrow…he might have a cool scar to show for it!!  Here he was giving me pancakes I think!

Swimming!!  We did a LOT of swimming and he loved it!!

He refused to swim in the ocean, but loved chasing the birds! IMG_1722

That’s it for us!  We’re taking another week off since Baloo starts school next week!  I think we’re going to lounge and just have a lot of fun!  But we will be back to our regular schedule soon!

I’ve also reserved the domain royalbaloo.com.  I have a lot of things planned for the site this year and I’m excited to start sharing!  I’m hoping to get everything transferred over in all my free time this week!
