Dinosaur Counting and Addition
Dinosaurs are such a great theme for kids and dinosaur counting is the perfect activity. I especially love how fun this one turned out!
My kids have, historically, been willing to do much more with any subject if we include dinosaurs!

Dinosaur Addition Activity
My kids have always loved dinosaurs and never really left their dinosaur phase – at least not for long.
So making an addition activity to go with the dinosaur theme was a no brainer!
I knew it would get them working on their addition facts with little to no effort from me.
If your kids are motivated by dinosaurs, this activity might just be right for them, too!
How to Use the Dinosaur Addition Activity
The idea behind this activity is adding spikes to the stegosaurus body. Each stegosaurus has a number on their body. And each spike has an addition fact on it.
Start by cutting out all of the spikes for the dinosaur. There are 3 spikes per stegosaurus.
Then lay it all out for your kids.
I like to start off with 2-3 numbers, but you can start with more (or less) depending on the ability of your child.
The key is to not overwhelm them but give them a bit of a challenge.

Then have them match the spikes to the dinosaur!
If they need help with the counting, encourage them to use their fingers or small objects.

You can glue down the spikes for a final product – or keep them loose to reuse over and over again!
How to Use the Dinosaur Activity for Counting
This activity could easily be used for counting, as well. Just gather some materials and they’re suddenly counting mats!
Here’s a few ideas for things you could gather:
LEGO. You can use any piece, really. We choose 2×4 pieces for spikes. As long as you have enough to count, it doesn’t matter which piece you choose.

These a little building pieces that can be a lot of fun. They were the perfect size for the larger numbers because they’re smaller.

Pom poms! When it doubt, pom poms are the answer. These were great for counting.

Any small object would work for this – the sky is the limit!

These are so cute!
