Kindergarten Transition 6/20

Baloo is 4 yeras 10.5 months

Being that Baloo is our oldest, homeschool up to this point has been very lax and easy.  But he starts kindergarten in just over 2 weeks (shortly before he turns 5!) and we need to get a bit more serious about our schedule.  So this week we’ve worked on keeping a good schedule…it’s a work in progress.  We are definitely going to need 2 more weeks to get into it!!  It probably doesn’t help that we found a new local  homeschool group and had our first meeting this week!  We had a blast but it totally messed up our schedule…

Anyway, we spent a lot of time this week doing random worksheets.  We did some from our pirates theme that we had missed, some ocean stuff, and some from our last unit of You Can Read.  We also started using some Ready2Read materials and Baloo is really enjoying it.  I think I’m going to keep on with the Ready2Read schedule and add in the You Can Read printables to match when possible!  I really like both programs and can’t just give one up!

The Decode the Sight word page from Ready2Read was definitely a favorite!

And for the first time, Baloo found something he really enjoyed coloring!

This is a read, trace, paste sheet.  I think Baloo loved that he could read ALL of the words.

This was a doubloon graphing activity we didn’t get to with our Jake and the Neverland pirates theme.  I had Baloo grab a handful of doubloons and then graph what he had.  He wasn’t really into this (though Royal was…)

Instead he wanted to do the matching activity I had ready for Royal (which Royal had no interest in, naturally!)

That was it for us this week.  We only got 2 days of our schedule in!  Wednesday we had to do some important chores in another city and Thursday was our homeschool group (we’re doing a 4 day week with Friday our make-up day).

  1. How cool! I'm glad you like your homeschool group.

I'm hoping to have a sort of mini-schedule this fall with our official Pre-K year. Keeping it light while still finding a routine so that K won't be such a big transition. (We're VERY lax..lol.)
