There are many ways to practice math but it seems like hands-on methods are the clearest and easiest methods. Hands on ten frame mats and number lines are two great hands-on ways to practice math. These roll, draw, and solve addition mats are another great way to work on math skills!
Different methods will appeal to different kids. I love having multiple ways to work on math!
How to Set Up the Christmas Math Mats
Start by making the dice. If you only intend on using them once or twice, just use regular printer paper. Otherwise, print on cardstock and use a glue gun to put together. They’ll last much longer this way!
The mat can be printed and laminated to use over and over again!
There is one mat for addition and one for subtraction. Either can be used but the dice for each are slightly different!
How to Use the Christmas Math Mats
The most direct way to use them is to roll the dice, put them in their spots, and fill out the math info.
There are 4 separate dice available – two meant for subtraction and two for addition. On the subtraction, the green die has higher numbers. This way a valid subtraction equation is made each roll.
The next step is to draw it. We did presents but anything can be used! Even simple dots work well for drawing the equation.
Last, write the numbers and solve it.
