Alphabet Puzzles

Alphabet puzzles are a great way to work on ABC skills. It can take a long time for kids to learn all 26 letters so I’m always working on new ways to work on letters.

These puzzles were a lot of fun to create and even more fun to use.

Alphabet Puzzles to Print

I love using hands on materials to reinforce new concepts. I think its important for kids to be able to manipulate their surrounds to make sense of the world. And letters are no different.

Using puzzles like these will help kids to really look at the letters and see what makes the letter different from others.

This also may help in writing as they don’t look at the letter as a whole they are identifying the individual parts.

What’s Included in the ABC Puzzle Set

There are 52 pages to this set – 2 for each letter.

One page (the black and white page) is meant to be the base layer. Use it as a guide for your kids to make their letters.

The second page (with color) is to cut out the pieces.

Every page features just one letter. And each letter has a few pictures. Each picture is of something that starts with that letter.

For example, the letter A includes an alien, an apple, an alligator, and an ambulance.

How to Use the Alphabet Puzzles

If you have a young child just starting out with the alphabet, I’d recommend starting with just one letter. Cut out the pieces and let them match to the base layer page.

You can point out each picture and ask what it is. When they say it, repeat it back and really focus on the letter sound. If they already know their letter sounds, this will help reinforce that information and associate the letter sound with the letter.

If they don’t already know their letter sounds, hopefully they will start to pick up on them.

If you have a child that already knows their alphabet, you might have multiple letters out at a time. The pictures on each piece will serve as a clue to which letter the piece belongs to and where it goes.

You might choose to not even use the base layer and let them just make the letters without the guide.
