Kindergarten – apples and sight words!
First I wanted to mention that royalbaloo.com is just about ready! There is a new look and some new features but due to some technical difficulties it’s not quite ready. Feel free to like our facebook page to know as soon as it’s ready though! I have some free printables that will be going up when the website is launched too!
Well we had an official full week of school! We did school everyday and still didn’t finish everything I had out!
Sight Words
We have been using You Can Read from 1+1+1=1 for our sight words. Right now Baloo is on unit 4. I’m also making some of my own printables to go with it for more practice and I hope to be able to upload them soon.
His favorite sight word activity this week was sight word graphing! We used our Education Cubes with sight word inserts. I would roll the cube and Baloo would read the word and graph it. Since our words this week were mom, love, dad, and at I told him I wanted mom to win so his competitive side came out! He loved when I would throw up my hands and sigh whenever any word besides mom was rolled.
He loved this game so much that he asked me to print out another sheet for him the next day!
We got this idea from 1+1+1=1 as well! Baloo loves his nerf guns but we don’t always have games to play with them, so this was perfect. I set up his 4 sight words on pieces of paper and taped them to the wall. Then I colored the ends of the darts with washable marker so that it would leave a mark wherever he hit.
But he had a lot of fun and in the end, he hit mom the most!
Toward the end of the week we got out our portable sight word wall and reviewed the ones we’ve studied. He decided to go through the entire list and put up all the ones he knows. And then he make his own little video and song for it.
Apples
I saw so many cute printables for apples that we had to make an apple theme week!
We started off by reading 10 Apples Up On Top by Dr. Seuss. We also had The Giving Tree out from the library for another project and it just so happens to also be about an apple tree!
First we had to cut open some apples and look inside! I had a green apple and a red apple so we cut them different ways to see the difference. They were very impressed with the star but surprised when the other apple was cut and there wasn’t a star. (And yes, Royal is dressed up as a dog!)
I let them eat half of each apple (to my surprised, Baloo preferred the tart green apple!) and with the other halves they did some apple printing.
Baloo is so interested in counting these days that I knew this activity from makinglearningfun.com would be a hit. I just put it in front of him and let him do whatever he wanted! He chose to count all the apples and color them as he went.
We talked about 5s this week a bit and different ways to make 5. I just cut out an apple from some construction paper to put this together (and Baloo requested that I not cut it apart) . I got this idea from F is for Firstgrade.
And we had to do some apple observations! This printable is from 2TeachingMommies.
Raising Rock Stars Kindergarten
We finished a bit more than half of Raising Rock Stars Preschool before Logi-Bear was born and we took the summer off. I am SO excited that Carisa is making Raising Rock Stars Kindergarten! We started this week with the letter A. I love that these units match the preschool ones so we can use some of the RRSP program with Royal while we do RRSK for Baloo!
We did all of the printables from the letter A unit this week, though I didn’t take pictures of most of them. We sang the song daily too, and by the end of the week both boys would sing along with me!
I had to take this picture because so often Baloo will not follow my instructions, but this time he did! Without any hesitation too!
We’ve moved to a new school room (which isn’t quite complete yet) so we have access to a bunch of toys that we haven’t had out in awhile! The boys were thrilled! Baloo immediately went for our Guidecraft Rainbow Blocks. He built a long bridge and made the other blocks go back and forth across it.
That’s it for us this week! Check out these blogs for more great ideas:
