Marshmallow Reindeer–The Virtual Book Club for Kids–Jan Brett

Jan Brett is the author of the month for the Virtual Book Club.  I’m not familiar with many of her books, but I’ve read The Mitten at least once a year for over a decade now!!  The Wild Christmas Reindeer is one of my favorites, and due to our recent reindeer theme (which has taken over everything!) I figured we should do a craft based on the book!

We decided to make reindeer out of marshmallows!  The boys love reindeer almost as much as they love marshmallows, so they were thrilled.

For each reindeer, we started off with 3 large coconut marshmallows (although I would have preferred chocolate marshmallows!), 4 whole toothpicks and 2 half toothpicks, some silver and red glitter gel (for cookie decorating), and 2 pretzels for antlers.

I had made an example for the boys to follow so it would be easier to explain what we were doing.  First we stuck two toothpicks into 2 of the marshmallows to serve as the reindeer legs.

Next we used a half toothpick to combine the 2 body marshmallows, and another half toothpick to attach the head.

The boys favorite part was decorating the face!!  On mine I used silver glitter gel for the eyes and red glitter gel for the nose.  I let the boys do as they please though!

Royal thought it would be hilarious to have a HUGE red nose.
