Try this fun Star Wars Art project for an art activity that you’d also be willing to hang on your walls.
Star Wars Art
Sometimes it’s difficult to get my kids into art.
Let me clarify though.
I have one child would could craft all day – especially if it’s a favorite theme of his (Minecraft Perler beads? He’s in).
I have another child who loves to draw his own creations but that’s as far as he cares to go into the art world.
And child #3 is a bit of a wild card.
But I am super arty and love all kinds of crafts. So my heart really wants them to do arts and crafts.
The key to getting them into art? Make it something they’re already interested in.
Like Star Wars. Yeah, they were all interested in trying some Star Wars art.

What you Need for the Star Wars Art
This art is pretty simply and there is plenty of room for creativity.
Materials Needed:
- Oil pastels or chalk pastels (We tried both and they’re both pretty great. The oil was much more vibrant)
- White acrylic paint
- Water
- Small paint cup
- Paint brush or old toothbrush
- Black cardstock
- Newspaper
- Star Wars Printable pages (can be found below)
How to Do the Star Wars Art Project
Start by using you black, purple, and blue pastels on the black paper. We’re making a galaxy background, so spread them as you wish.
Then use your finger to spread them all around. The goal isn’t a completely smooth background but it should be at least a bit blurry.
You can add more pastels and smudge with your fingers multiple times. Keep going until you’re happy with the result.
Next we’re going to add the stars.
Get a little cup for the white paint. Add a very small amount of paint and a few drops of water. The swirl it around until it’s mixed.
It shouldn’t be watery but it should be less thick than regular paint.
Use your brush or paintbrush to spray your paper with the white paint.
The paint tends to spread so make sure to do this over a newspaper or outside.
Next, take the Star Wars printable pages and choose what you would like on your page. There are X-wings, TIE Fighters, the Death Star, and more. Mix and match however you would like!
Then color them in, add some shading, or whatever you want.
Lastly, cut them out.
Glue them onto the black galaxy paper – and you’re done!
Make sure the paint is dry and then you can hang them up or display them wherever you’d like.
