Rocket Ship Shape Activity
Practice shape matching with this fun Rocket Ship theme! Perfect for any space theme – especially for preschool and kindergarten!
Rocket Ship Shape Activity
Space is such a fun theme. There is so much to learn in space.
Rocket ships are a natural favorite. The idea of being an astronaut and flying into space – how exciting!
This rocket ship shape activity plays on the love of rocket ships and the idea of being astronaut.
It’s basically just a ‘match the astronaut to the correct rocket ship’ kind of activity.
How to Do the Rocket Ship Shape Activity
This activity is all about matching the shapes.
There are rocket ships with a dashed line where the window should be and a set of shaped windows with astronauts floating around.
If you’re starting with a younger child that isn’t as familiar with shapes or matching, just pull out a few pages to start with.
For older kids, feel free to present the entire set all at once! There are 14 shapes altogether – so it’s a good amount but shouldn’t be overwhelming.
For the younger bunch, I like to present one card and an option of the matching shapes. Then they can pick the right one and place it on the rocket shape.
Get More out of the Space Shapes
I always love extra ideas for using printables in multiple ways.
Trace the shape. Have your child trace (with their finger or a pen) the shape before adding the astronaut in the window. If they can name it – have them do that, too!
Guess the Shape. See if your child can guess the shape just by feeling it. Ask them to close their eyes and then hand them one of the window shapes (already cut out).
How many sides? Shapes are designated based on things like how many sides they have, if the sides are equal or not, the angles, etc. It’s a great exercise to get younger kids to start thinking about what makes shapes different from each other. So as you’re going through, talk about how many sides each shape has and how that makes it unique.
