31 Days of Gross Motor–Week 1

31 Days of Gross Motor Challenge

Cassie from 3 Dinosaurs and I have teamed up (again) for a year of challenges.  Every month we will host a new challenge!  This first month is 31 Days of Gross Motor
Here is what we did the first week!

Day 1: Snowmen
The boys started off as snow on the ground.

Slowly they rose up creating the first ball, the 2nd ball…

And finally they were snowmen!

I accessorized them…

And then they started to melt…

into little puddles on the floor.  We did this a few times and using different accessories each time.  Sometimes they would dress each other too!

Day 2: Jumping

We had a bit of a jumping contest today.  Not so much a contest between each other, but within ourselves.  We tried small itty bitty jumps, followed by medium jumps, then big jumps, and then we tried to jump to the moon!

Psyching up for another jump (Logi-Bear wouldn’t let go of his library prize – a book about trucks!)

AND JUMP!!!!

We hopped in place, hopped in circles, jumped on each foot, hopped in a line, and then we just jumped like crazy!

Day 3: Clap Your Hands
I had hoped to hold out on this gem a little bit longer, but since the sickies are still going around (and around) our household, I needed a break!

If case you haven’t seen this book, it’s a rhyming story that instructs you to do certain things.  It starts off with “Clap your hands, stomp your feet, shake your arms, then take a seat” and continues with rubbing tummies, somersaults, barking, and more!

I’ve found this book to be wonderful for those times when all you can do is lay on the couch, but your rowdy kids are literally running circles around the coffee table.  My boys will go through it over and over, doing all the motions, and tiring themselves out.

Day 4: Crabwalk

Admittedly, day 4 did not go very well as far as gross motor goes!  Sometimes when we have extra energy to get out at the end of the day I have the boys do a crabwalk from their bedroom to the bathroom (for baths) and then back when we’re done.  We will just crabwalk wherever we need to go!

  1. I really think the snowman idea is awesome and the crabwalk is so so cute 🙂 Love all the pictures 🙂 I could not take any of Aarya's pics, because he is at the stage where he stops all of his activities and wants to take a couple of hundreds of photos instead 🙂

  2. These are such fun simple little ideas! These would be great to do with my girls before we start a day of schooling to help them get focused on the tasks ahead. I love that you "accessorized" your snowmen, lol, so cute!
