Freight Train by Donald Crews–Virtual Book Club for Kids
It’s time for the August Virtual Book Club for Kids and the author this month is Donald Crews!
I knew we’d be doing Freight Train this month – after all, Logi-Bear is crazy about trains. Crazy might not even describe his love for trains.
I love how Crews shows motion in the book. The colors are blurred back…it just looks like it’s going fast. I had saved some oil pastels and knew they would be perfect for this project.
I started off by quickly drawing the train. It didn’t have to be perfect, but the boys needed some outlines to stay within.
Then we started coloring. All of us. At the same time. I don’t know how, but it worked out just fine!
Once we had finished coloring (in about 30 seconds) we got some paper towels are rubbed from he front to the back. Royal took control of that process.
We probably would have be fine with one or two swipes, but Royal thought 9 was a better amount.
Our train! Doesn’t it look like it’s going fast? Once we were finished Royal made it zoom through the house at top speeds
If you’d like to participate in the Virtual Book Club, just follow these simple steps! 1. Pick your favorite Donald Crews book and share it with your children and/or class! (Feel free to comment here with which book you’ve chosen!) 2. Create an activity, craft, recipe, project etc! Do it and take pictures! 3. Come back and share it with us! The blog hop will be live for 3 weeks so share anytime in those 3 weeks!
