Organizing All About Reading

Last year Baloo and I worked through All About Reading level 1, and this year we’ve started level 2.  I absolutely love the program, and I’m sure we will continue through to level 4 eventually!

How to Organize All About Reading

We were faced with a bit of a dilemma this year – space and organizing.  I needed to be able to keep the main part of the program organized and easily storable.  Plus I’ve often run into the problem of sitting down to start a lesson and realizing that I need to cut something out, or staple something together.

Before we started I took apart the student manual completely.  I separated the word cards and the student manual by lesson and put each lesson in a sheet protector (some lessons with just one or two pages I combined into one sheet protector).  Then I put it all in a binder.

Anything that needed to be cut or stapled I went ahead and got it prepared.

That word flipper is already cut and stapled and ready to go!

In the back of the binder I put the progress chart along with some stickers.

Everything is now nice and easy and we can just sit down and get started.  I love AAR and having a good method of organization has helped tremendously!

  1. This is SO helpful! I forgot to order a second set of dividers and storage box for my younger son this year. I thought the one we had would be enough, then it hit me that teaching two different levels means two sets of cards to organize separately. This is a much better solution to organizing for the two kids. I love the idea of having everything already cut/prepped too. Definite time and space saver! Thanks for sharing.

    1. We didn’t get a second storage box either! I had it in my mind that we would be using the same one…not sure why!

  2. Great minds think alike, today’s post for me is about teaching reading with multiple kids with All About Reading, and I’ve got some tips for organizing in there as well.

    1. Going to check out yours Ticia! We have the Pre-Reading level for Royal but haven’t been using it. I’ll need to be prepared for using it with multiple kids soon though!

  3. OK! Love this! I just started the pre-reading with my four year old and I cheaped out and didn’t by the deluxe version to get the box for the cards. I did order the puppet which she adores. This totally solves my card issue 🙂
