Lucky Charms Graphing

We love cereal but I try to limit overly sugary cereal – so when as excuse comes up to buy something fun like Lucky Charms, we jump at it.  And what is more fun that some early morning graphing?  One math activity all my boys have loved, starting from a very young age, is graphing.

So Day 2 of my 17 Days of St Patricks Day Math Activities is all about graphing Lucky Charms marshmallows!  Check out the rest of the days here!

Usually I let them choose their breakfast, but today I just had a bowl of cereal set out next to this setup:

They didn’t need any prodding either.  They knew exactly what to do and set to work.

And when they were finished we discussed what they had.  What had the most?  Least?  How many tied?  They were actually asking me the questions that they wanted to answer.

This probably took less than 5 minutes but it was fun and they loved it.  Especially the end when I said they could eat the extra marshmallows!

If you’d like a copy of the Lucky Charms Graphing page, it’s here!
