PreK – Aa, Dr. Seuss and Airplanes!
This week just flew by! We did school everyday but it seems like we only did 1/2 of what we planned!
Baloo has really been working on his reading. It was pretty nice to find him curled up with the clean laundry and actually reading a book! This is Go, Dog, Go! by PD Eastman (part of the Dr. Seuss collection). He can read some of the words here and there and was actually enjoying doing that by himself!
We made up a game to help Baloo with sounding out 3 letter words. I had 2 vowels and 8 consonants out. The only rule of the game is that an orange card (vowel) has to be in the middle! We make up a lot of nonsense words, but that’s half the fun! I just used colored 3×5 notebook cards. On one side I wrote a letter, and the other side I put on 2 magnets. Baloo thinks its fun and his sounding-out confidence has soared!
Our March poem! We’re doing a space/moon theme the 3rd week in March so I choose a poem to go with that. We seriously slacked off on our poem last month, so I’m hoping to be better about it this month. Next week I’ll be getting out some manipulatives to go with it! ![]()
We started off the week with a movie day. I found a Dr. Seuss movie called Up, Up, and Away! It looked like it had something to do with airplanes and I was a bit shocked that we stumbled upon a movie that dealt with both of our random themes this week! The boys loved it!
They just love putting the vocab words up on the easel. This has become the hit of our weeks.

He made A and a with playdough. ![]()
We decided to make an airplane with this orange juice container. I tried to just get a bunch of materials and let Baloo dictate what to do. We also had lids for wheels and pom poms for lights.
He was insistent on adding the tail!
The finished product! Amazingly this airplane lasted 3 full days! Both boys had it fly all around the house!
We still had a lot of outdoors time this week, but I tried to mix it up. We did a very small amount of sidewalk chalk. This did not hold they interest at all! ![]()
The bubbles were a bit better, but still not as big a hit as I had imagined! ![]()
We got a lot of Dr. Seuss activities in. One we did was measuring things with our feet! We used a worksheet from 2 Teaching Mommies to record how long everything was!
He did a Cat in the Hat maze. Baloo still isn’t very interested in following the rules of mazes (can’t hop over the lines!) but we’re working on it!
We tried to make cupcakes that look like the Cat in the Hat’s hat.
Baloo was checking to make sure that we did the colors correctly.
Is it a hat? Well the colors didn’t turn out exactly right…but the cupcakes were still yummy!!
Our Green Eggs and Ham Venn diagram! The right side was green food, and the left side was food Baloo likes. I cheated a bit and printed out a green cake to make sure there was at least one food he would put in the middle! ![]()
Then we made green deviled eggs! I didn’t bother with the ham since I knew no one would eat them!
Baloo doesn’t care for deviled eggs, so I just gave him the egg white part. I did convince him to try the yolk though! At the end he said “I do NOT like green eggs and ham!”
That was our week! Next week is Kk and knights!
Check out the Preschool Corner for more wonderful PreK ideas!

Fun green deviled eggs! I didn't bother making either of the real foods because my kids would never touch green eggs. They're rather picky lol. 🙂
